End of term arrangements, December 2020

8th December 2020

Dear Parents & Carers,

As the year and term draws to an end I wanted to take the time to write to you to celebrate what we have achieved, thank you for your ongoing support and to discuss some of the practical arrangements around the end of term and start of next year.

This has been a year like no other and in the face of a global pandemic our students and staff have continued to adapt and persevere to continue learning. It is an incredible testament to all staff, students, parents and the wider community that we have remained open throughout both national lockdowns, welcoming all students back in September.

This half term we have been able to start overcoming some of the difficulties presented by Covid-19 and have found ways to bring back some of normal academy life. I’m hopeful that the new year will allow us to continue with this and we are already planning the return of extra curricular clubs. I will continue to keep you updated on our safety measures and thank you for your continued support.

End of term arrangements

You may have seen on the news that recent guidance from the Department for Education regarding the end of term has changed and we are now able to move a staff training day to finish one day earlier. This change will mean that we will not be put in a position where we might be contacting you on Christmas Eve to notify you that your child would need to self isolate.

I appreciate that this is short notice but feel that this is an important step to try and protect the festive period for as many members of our academy as possible.

We will therefore be shutting on Thursday 17th December at 12:10pm for Years 7, 9 and 11 and then at 12:40pm for Years 8 and 10. These staggered times will allow us to continue maintaining social distancing measures.

The original training day which was planned for the 29th January 2021 will now be a normal academy day with all staff and students in the academy.

Festive jumper/socks day

We will also be holding an optional festive jumper and or socks day on Thursday 17th December. Students must continue to wear academy uniform but will be able to wear a festive jumper and/or socks for a suggested donation of £1. Jumpers and socks must be appropriate with no offensive writing or images.

All money raised will be split and donated to Mind and The Trussell Trust (Food bank).

Covid-19 cases and contact tracing

We have recently set up a new email address for reporting any student who tests positive for Covid-19. We would please ask that you now use this email address and where possible include a screenshot of the test result and a contact number to reach you and the student for the purposes of contact tracing. The email is as follows:

Following the Department for Education’s advice we will be continuing to contact trace for any positive cases that occur within the first 6 days of the Christmas break. The email address included above will be checked at 3pm each day until the 23rd December.

We will do our best to contact any student who has been identified as a close contact of any positive case through the MyEd app.

If your child tests positive after 3pm on 23rd December then we please ask that you wait to report this to us until the first day of term or contact Manchester City Council Test and Trace. Manchester City Council will update their website with details of any cases beyond this date, and it will be up to parents/carers to check for these details as they wish.

There will be no reply to emails or messages from the academy sent between 3pm on the 23rd December and the morning of the 4th January.

Start of spring term

We will be returning to the academy on Monday 4th January 2021 and will be continuing with staggered start and end times. Please continue to make sure that your child only comes on to the site up to 10 minutes before their start time (unless they are accessing our Breakfast club).

Thank you again for your continued support and I hope you and your family have a restful and cheerful festive break.

Yours Faithfully

Chris Beard
