Annabel meets the Lord Mayor

Annabel meets the Lord Mayor

Helping our students appreciate the joys of reading and writing is a priority for the academy, and so staff were thrilled to learn that Annabel in Year 8 had entered the Bee in the City Creative Writing Competition. More than that, we were buzzing to hear that she had won the competition for all 12-16 year olds for the whole city!

The competition celebrated the arrival of over a hundred giant bee sculptures across the city (including Bee Blackley, which the academy supported). The competition asked young people to write a story inspired by the sculptures.

Annabel was presented with an award by the Lord Mayor Councillor June Hitchen, in front her parents, classmates and academy staff. In a special presentation at the Lord Mayor’s chambers, she read her story aloud with aplomb and collected her prizes (including a family trip to London and a behind the scenes MediaCity tour).

Well done to Annabel for this amazing achievement.
