Riding high: our BMX champion
Katie (Year 9) has been BMX racing since late 2015. She first got into cycling when her mum took her to the Velodrome at the National Cycling Centre for a Track Cycling session. Katie enjoyed this, but noticed the BMX Park outside and wanted to give it a go. Ever since, she has caught the BMX bug, travelling up and down the country from Scotland to Kent.
Katie has competed in the British Championships, which consists of 1 day of racing, and the National Championships. The Nationals are 12 rounds, with each round consisting of 2 days of racing. During the
Nationals, 6 venues are visited with Kent Cycle Park being a personal favourite of Katie’s.
Career highlights so far include 1st in the Nationals at Manchester, Essex and Derby.
Mr Mills recently went to watch Katie win round 5 of the Nationals, where she took 3rd overall. She is now working towards representing representing Great Britain at the BMX World Championships in Azerbaijan in June, and also the European Championships in July.
