Video: Sports Day heroes
The whole academy travelled to the Manchester Regional Arena at Sport City for our 2019 Sports Day – the biggest and best yet.
Despite it raining as we boarded the coaches, it cleared by the time we arrived and took our places at the stands.
To kick things off, we started with our first ever departmental 800m race, which members of staff dressed up as calculators, artists, Shakespearean characters and other symbols of their area.
From there, Sports Day started in full, with track and field events including the long jump, triple jump, discus, javelin and of course the 100m, 400m, 800,, 1500m and relay races. In the indoor arena, students also competed in bowls, archery, the wheelbarrow race and the egg and spoon race.
In the days leading up to the day, students had created bright and vivid banners and posters for cheer on their academy Family. Our six Year 7-10 Families have been competing all the way through the year, but Sports Day is worth double points!
Students conducted themselves with aplomb at the arena, cheering on the athletes and taking part in a multitude of events.
As we left the stadium, the final scores were still being counted up for the big reveal later in the week. The results were:
