Student leaders ensure the academy is ready for Ramadan

Muslim students have been leading the way in ensuring the academy is ready for Ramadan; an important holy month for Muslims in which they fast, give to charity, pray and become closer to God.

Preparations have included making sure our brand new prayer room is ready. Staff have worked to provide a calm and comfortable space for reflection, but it’s our students who have taken a lead in making it ready for Ramadan – thinking carefully about Qiblah, which is the direction towards which Muslims face when in prayer.

Year 10 student Aemen has created some wonderful posters for them room, which explain key facts about Ramadan. She has also thought carefully about Year 11 students who will be fasting during their exams, and in helping non-Muslims to understand what Ramadan is and how it can bring our whole academy together.

Over the next month we will be further exploring Ramadan in assemblies and Tutor Time. We wish our Muslim community a blessed Ramadan over the coming month – see our students’ posters below for top tips.
