Easter letter home

Dear parents and carers,

Following the Easter break, we look forward to welcoming students back to the academy on Tuesday 22 April

Before the Easter break, we had a record number of students meet the reward criteria and attend the Alton Towers trip. It was great to be able to celebrate the collective efforts of students who had attended well, conducted themselves well and completed the expected levels of homework.

As the new term begins, it is a real opportunity for students to join the successes of others and ensure that they are best prepared for learning. With that in mind, we are reminding students, parents and carers of the basic expectations required of all students at Co-op Academy Manchester and asking for your support to help set students up for success.

Expectations

  • Students should arrive at the academy at 8.20am for a prompt arrival at their year group entrance gate.

Students are marked late if they arrive at the academy after the gates close at 8.30am. If your child is late to school, they will receive a 20-minute lunchtime detention on the same day. Students will still be able to access lunch and toilet facilities if they have detention. Parents and carers can check lateness on the Arbor system. Please note, from Tuesday 22 April the majority of our messages to parents and carers will be sent through Arbor. We will no longer send My Ed or SMS messages for routine communications. More help on accessing Arbor can be found here.

  • Students should bring a suitable bag which allows room for the key items needed during the day, such as pencil cases, coats and PE kit.

Teachers will always support students by providing additional equipment, such as spare PE kit and/or pens, but, to avoid any delay to learning, it is always better to come prepared with the items that will be required on the day.

  • Polite reminder - upon crossing the red line to school, mobile phones should be switched off and stored out of sight, in school bags or inside blazer pockets. Air pods and headphones are not allowed.

There has been significant evidence reported recently of the risks that mobile phones bring to school life, both in terms of disruption to learning and potential safeguarding-related matters. As such, we know we can count on your support with this expectation. If seen by staff, any of these items will be confiscated and stored safely at reception. Parents and carers will be asked to collect confiscated items as these will not be returned directly to students.

Uniform

The following items of uniform are expected to be worn by all students each day:

  • White shirt or blouse

  • Co-op Academy Manchester blazer

  • Year group tie

  • Black trousers or Black skirt

Optional items

  • School jumper

  • A small pair of stud earrings (1 in each lobe) are the only jewellery to be worn in the academy.

  • Hairbands are to be discreet and either black or dark navy blue.

For health and safety reasons, all jewellery must be removed during PE lessons and hair tied back.

The summer term brings lots of additional opportunities for students. Year 11 are preparing to take their external exams, and we wish them the very best of luck as they enter this crucial time. In addition, Years 9 and 10 both have important exam periods.

Our teachers look forward to meeting parents and carers of Year 10 children at the Progress Evening on  Thursday 24 April 4-7pm - please see this copy of the letter sent explaining our new booking process.

Recently, we recruited coaches from the community to deliver exciting activities during lunchtime within the academy, including karate and circuit training fitness classes, and we will be looking to improve the enrichment offer even further over the coming weeks and months.

As a final reminder, our homework expectation of all students follows the 10:10:10 approach. We expect students to complete 10 minutes of knowledge expert sheet revision, 10 minutes of Sparx Maths and 10 minutes of Sparx Reader, daily. Please ensure that your child is maximising the opportunities available to them by completing this in line with the academy expectations.

We look forward to welcoming all students back on 22 April
