National Education Nature Park Initiative

Eco Club students were recently joined by Stephen Morgan MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department for Education, who came to see all the amazing work they have done creating green spaces and boosting biodiversity around the academy grounds.

Co-op Academy Manchester has been working with National Education Nature Park, which is a joint initiative launched by the Department for Education, the Natural History Museum, the Royal Horticultural Society and partners. This programme offers children and young people the opportunity to take hands-on action to improve biodiversity and tackle climate change. The programme aims to embed nature-based learning in the curriculum, and encourage children and young people all over the country to take action to improve their school sites for people and wildlife.

Mr Simpson from our Science Department leads the way on this project, accessing the funding and organising our after-school Eco Club twice a week. Students have been planting trees, building habitats for wildlife, increasing biodiversity and developing their climate and nature knowledge whilst having fun gaining green skills together.

Stephen Morgan MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department for Education, came to talk with students about the changes they have made to the academy grounds.

" I've loved my visit to Co-op Academy Manchester today, seeing first hand all the amazing things the students have been doing with their Nature Park funding. From a self-sustaining wildflower meadow to a green wall that has helped lower the temperature of an overheating technology classroom, this school shows how involved students have been in their programme in the past year."

The academy has loved being part of this national programme - we are even featured as a case study on the National Education Nature Park website: https://www.educationnaturepark.org.uk/creating-green-wall-co-op-academy
