A letter for parents/carers of Year 11 students

Dear parents and carers,
We are writing to you as your child is now beginning the final part of their journey with us as a Year 11 student.
This is a huge year for all involved and we are looking forward to supporting and challenging students all the way through to their post-16 destinations.
We are just weeks away from the first round of Year 11 mock exams starting Monday 28th October. We are asking for your support and help so that your child achieves the grades they require for future college courses or apprenticeships.
Save the date - Year 11 Revision Evening
Before the mock exams, we are planning a special evening for students and their families, to share our top tips on revision techniques. This will take place after school on Tuesday 8 October.
We'll be in touch soon to confirm the exact times and details.
Attendance
Research says that “90% of persistent non-attenders do not achieve five or more good GCSEs. Around one third achieve no GCSEs at all. This can result in limited opportunities for post 16 qualifications and/or employment”.
It is imperative that students attend school every day and are punctual, arriving to start the school day at 8:20am. If students are late they are missing vital learning.
In tutor time we deliver a variety of sessions to support pupils as they prepare for their GCSEs. Three times a week, students have 30-minute session starting promptly at 8:30am as follows:
- Monday - English
- Wednesday - Science
- Thursday - Maths
Year 11 also have weekly assemblies. We have several colleges visiting our assemblies in the coming weeks to explain the different pathways on offer to your child.
Careers Team
Mrs Davey and Mrs Godfrey are our Careers Team.
Year 11 will have sessions around college applications, writing personal statements and the opportunity to speak to a Careers Advisor for help and guidance. Please encourage your child to speak to them if they need help or support in this area.
Work at Home
It is really important that students spend time at home revising, completing independent tasks and any past exam papers given to them by their teachers. This will prepare them well for the GCSEs and give them the best chance of succeeding in their upcoming mock exams.
You can support your child by helping them to write a revision timetable so that they are covering all their subjects, asking them questions about what they have revised that day and encouraging them to complete past papers in their subjects.
All students have been provided with a variety of resources and there are copies of these available in the tenacity tutor area. Please encourage students to use these at home:
- Independent learning tasks
- Online learning platforms
- Revision guides
- Easy guides
- Past papers
- Google Classroom
XL Sessions
Subject specialists will be hosting regular booster sessions. Please encourage your child to attend. The timetable for all sessions can be found below.
We are incredibly proud of the many achievements this year group have already secured in their time with us, and we are excited to watch them grow.
Mrs Antrobus (Assistant Vice Principal for Year 11) and Mr Schofield (Academic Head of Year for Year 11)
