Year 9 End of Year Assessments

Dear parents and carers of students in Year 9,
Your child is coming to the end of Key Stage 3 and about to start the next stage of their journey with us as they study for their GCSEs over Year 10 and 11.
In order to prepare them for this and gauge where the gaps in learning are, all Year 9 pupils will be taking part in ‘End of Year’ assessments. These assessments will take place between Tuesday 22nd April and Wednesday 7th May and will be sat in exam conditions (following the timetable below).
The purpose of assessment is to enable us to see the effectiveness of the taught curriculum in each subject, and to help identify each student’s individual strengths and areas of development so that we can adapt upcoming teaching, and the curriculum, as necessary.
For students, assessments provide valuable opportunities to build their experience and skills in how to revise effectively, as well as ensuring that key knowledge is revisited regularly to help them to retain this in their long-term (working) memory.
End of year assessments are also a very good opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with the examinations process in readiness for the formal examinations they will complete in future years.

Students should not feel worried about these end of year assessments; class teachers will ensure that they are prepared for them and know what to expect.
Before the assessments, Year 9 will have an assembly so we can explain the procedure and tutors will be speaking to students about expectations in an exam hall. We just ask that they try their best, so that teachers have a clear indication of where they are at and what gaps may need addressing.
If your child is feeling particularly anxious, please email the Year 9 team: Mr Haseler, Ms Butler, Mr Carroll and Ms Roberts to see how we can support at manc-y9@coopacademies.co.uk.
