Outstanding mathematicians at Co-op Academy Manchester have gained a respected A-Level style Maths qualification before they've even taken their GCSE exams!
A total of 12 students - now in Year 10 and 11 - gave up their spare time last year to study for the WJEC Additional Maths Level 2, which is effectively an A-Level taster.
During the August results day they were celebrating along with their older peers.
This talented group of young people have now received their certificates.
Ten of the students were in Year 10 at the time they took the exam and two were in Year 9 - the latter breaking a new school record as the youngest students to achieve a recognised mathematical qualification.
"It is incredible to think that topics normally taught to sixth formers have been lapped up by these incredible students," said Maths teacher Mr Tollman. "Even more so when they opted to study these topics in their own time! I'm incredibly proud of each and every one of them!"
The successful Year 9s (now in Year 10) are: Alekss and Jordan - who both achieved distinctions.
The successful Year 10s (now in Year 11) are: Stephanie (distinction), Miesha (distinction), Yilei (distinction), Zaara (pass), Alex (distinction), Peculiar (pass), Szymon (pass), Liam (distinction), Mateusz (distinction) and Diyar-Pasha (merit).
"It was a difficult challenge but was overall fun and I hope the experience will help me pursue maths in higher education."
