Little Shop of Horrors comes to the Academy Theatre
February 2024 saw our spectacular production of Little Shop of Horrors.
It played to packed audiences for three nights as audiences were invited to “feed the need for musical hilarity with this delicious sci-fi smash about a man-eating plant!”
Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world.
The story:
The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!
Students have been working hard on the show since auditions were held in September. We are proud that students from all Year Groups were part of our cast of 50. In addition, the show included live music from a band including 4 students plus staff members, and an additional 13 students made the magic of Theatre happen behind the scenes.
“In 2015, our academy’s first ever production was Little Shop of Horrors. Back then we performed it in our Dining Hall as we didn’t have out state-of-the-art Theatre - so we are delighted to revisit this iconic show. This time, we have a bigger cast and a bigger set - all-in-all a much more epic production! We have thoroughly enjoyed producing this show as a team, working incredibly hard to showcase the talents of our students.”
