Astronomy Evening Ignites Cosmic Curiosity Among Students and Community

On Wednesday 22 November, we were delighted to welcome students and their families, as well as the local community, to our Astronomy Evening.

Building on the success of last year's event, our Science Teachers hosted an interactive event with a range of partner organisations, aiming to showcase the fascinating topic of space.

Highlights included:

  • A huge Starchaser rocket pointed guests in the direction of the event, and the team were on hand to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists.
  • The Polestar Planetarium took over our Academy Theatre, and visitors were wowed with a dazzling visual exploration of the cosmos.
  • Our friends from The Institute of Physics were on hand to share their stargazing expertise.

"There was a really wide range of activities, including the planetarium. What was great about the event was that I got a really clear idea of how I can convert all this knowledge about science careers into plans for my future."

Joseph, Year 11 student

We are also grateful to The Ogden TrustHeaton Park Astronomy Group, local STEM Ambassadors, The Smallpiece Trust, The University of Manchester's School of Engineering and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory who made the event possible.

The event was led by our academy STEM team who would be happy to answer any questions from students interested in careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (as well as from any organisations who can help promote these fantastic careers to our students.)
