Weekly update 04 December 2020
Dear parents and carers, welcome to this week’s update.
This week’s parent poll
Three quick questions about home learning. Click to complete.
COVID update & home learning
We were informed of two new cases during our training day on Friday 27 November. We have had to ask some students in Year 7 and Year 9 to self-isolate as a result, and work from home.
If we ever have to ask your child to self-isolate, they would be asked to:
- Log on to Google Classroom each day and let us know they are OK (this is through a room called Year 7/8/9/10/11 In Touch).
- Visit the rooms for each lesson they would have that day if they were in school. For example, if your child has English, History and Art on a Monday in school, then they should work on these same three lessons at home.
- Teachers post the same materials in Google Classroom that they go through in lesson – so your child should look through these and complete any tasks set.
- Your child can comment in the Classrooms to get help from academy staff.
Important – if your child doesn’t know their academy email or password, please get in touch. There are also lots of help resources at https://manchester.coopacademies.co.uk/parents/home-learning/
A reminder about PE Kits
Please can you ensure your child is coming to PE lessons prepared with the appropriate kit. They should have their red t-shirt, black shorts and trainers.
Additionally they can bring layers to wear under their t-shirt, buy the school red training top or the school tracksuit bottoms/leggings. Non-school leggings or tracksuit bottoms are not allowed to be worn.
A change of socks would also be helpful if the wet weather remains. If a student is excused from taking part in the lesson they are still required to bring their full PE kit in.
Head of Academy Mr Beard plans to host a virtual Parent Forum over Zoom on Monday 14 December, between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
We will be inviting a random sample of parents and carers to join us from a pool of people who have shown their interest in joining. There is still time to join the pool if you have not already done so using this link.
The agenda will involve discussing the responses to our recent surveys on COVID measures, general Ofsted questions and home learning.
Healthy Schools survey
If you have 10 minutes to fill in a survey about our food education and provision, we would love your feedback. https://forms.gle/2dqys4HF5xgVhRKf6
(We did try to send this last week but there was an issue – we think we’ve fixed it now!)
Parent Governor elections
Thanks to everyone who has voted so far. If you haven’t yet voted, the deadline is 12noon on Friday 11 December and the link is https://forms.gle/aDNkUVxbxdaHmVws8
We are very pleased that a number of parents and carers put themselves forward.
This academic year marks 10 years since the academy opened its doors, and we have been looking back over our old photos and movies. We enjoyed watching our Big Band perform ‘Frosty the Snowman’ back in 2013 and thought you might like to watch it too https://youtu.be/ojihkQq4zXQ
Whilst 2020 has been a much quieter year than usual for music and the arts, we are planning a little something (in a COVID-safe way!) and hope to be able to share it with you before the holidays.
