Urban Care – our Young Enterprise group makes a difference to local people

Urban Care is our Year 10 Young Enterprise group. Urban Care runs as a social enterprise whose goal is to send care packages to the homeless. The students decided that giving the homeless small comforts in life would be the best way they could make a big difference.

The group has been really busy, selling themed gifts at Christmas (at the Manchester Christmas Markets) and for Valentines Day (at the Trafford Centre). The students have been very enterprising in creating their own decorations and cards, and have worked closely with our Technology Department to create fantastic products.

As well as charming customers with their sales techniques, the students have also been presenting their enterprise to many industry professionals. At a visit to the Dragon’s Den in a swish corporate office in Manchester’s Spinningfields district, the judges complemented the team on their presentation and told them they were on the right track. At the Trafford Centre, they had a judge in tears as they passionately explained the importance of their business to Manchester’s homeless community.

The project is still underway, so watch this space to see what Urban Care achieves next!
